need help with a starter?
I've got a 92 mastercraft maristar 240 with an indmar marine 454 in it and went to start it today and the solenoid clicked then did nothing, it's still drawing off the battery because i notice a voltage drop when i bump the key, does anybody know what advance auto parts or oreilly auto part no. that would replace the starter that's on there?
If you hear the starter bendix engage the flywheel then its the engine stuck, it still usually moves the engine a bit, pay close attention to the balancer. If you dont hear the bendix engage then your starter is either bad or dirty. Try hitting the starter a few times with a mallet. If its dirty that oughta loosen it up and itll work for a bit. Either way the motor will have to come out and be taken apart. spray the parts down with electronics cleaner ( $5 ) put it back together and it ought to work, I say that because starter motors dont j stop working uess youve been holdin the dm key down. Nontheless if worse comes to worse a 454 starter is part number 03-3367X from oreilys ( $30 ) and no, there is no difference between a mercruiser starter and a chevy truck starter.
