1970 Chevelle Battery Problem?
Ok People I have a 1970 Chevelle that kept shutting off on me the other day, people i knew kept insisting it was the alternator...so i took off the alternator and took it to two different parts stores and go it tested twice at each store......It passed all 4 times, So i went out and bought a brand new die hard battery, and she worked fine, I hardly drive the thing so 1 week later i took it out again and it started fine, but after i took it for a run and parked it it didnt start, i put my voltmeter on the batt and only have 11.98 volts.....y does my battery keep draining?....This is really frustrating me any adivse would help THANKS!!!
boy i dont know where to start on this one--because i have never heard so many idiotic responses==="higher cold cranking amps" ? CCA has nothing to do with a short-just the amount af amps available when cranking engine over at 32 degrees=="check engine light" ?==for gods sake its a 1970 !! the most emission equipment is a p.c.v. valve ! ! =="sticking regulator" ==i believe the regulator is electronic - no points in an electronic regulator to "stick"==NEWAGE 19=if this tells your age==pretty bright person=and sooooo close to being completely RIGHT ! ! you just forgot one thing--if it has a clock it is always drawing power-sometimes even when it doesnt work because the winder points may have welded themselves together-but still minimal curent draw-like maybe a year or more before it would kill a battery--and the other thing you missed was to make sure the interior lights are shut off =cuz if you have the door open-the test light will be on = current draw==nice job-can i put ypu on my list? next up== "a catalytic converter on a '70 ==let alone a dirty one--thats another one going in my book ! ! "alternator tester runs on 120/220 volts" !==thats what the testers motor runs on to drive the belt that spins the alternator==nothing else ! ! ==another one "something is draining the battery"==duh-isnt that what your question is about--or am i missing something?==" a fusable link " not even thought about in 1970-let alone a bad one causing a problems==a fuseable link is a smaller gauge wire between two bigger wires used on heavy load/short duration items that a regular fuse would pop thats why they are called "fusable links" when the smaller wire overheats it burns up and presto no power to that circuit to be causing any problems here==so i have been a little long winded here but these idiots are just throwing junk out of their %&$$&* 's just to get points--please read the questions-and answer only if they know what they are talking about===SO GOOD JOB NEW AGE 19==and keep up your homework ! ! ! add herb s to the good job list
