92 Geo Storm Harmonic Balancer Center Bolt Removal?
I've got all the books to it and we are trying to change the timing belt but we can't get the center bult off the crank shaft. I have broken two 17mm sockets with a breaker bar, have it so the crankshaft is locked and can't move and we have even tryed impact wrenches on it and we still can't get it off. Anyone know how to get that center bolt out so we can get his timing belt changed? And Also his car just shut down on him while he was driving and leaked antifreeze everywhere, so we replaced the waterpump to while we are doing his timing belt (it was seezed up tighter than tight probably what broke his belt). If he didn't hear anything when it shutdown or when we turn the crank shaft don't hear anything but the abnormal fast cranking... did his valves get hit? I can't hear anything hitting each other but I figured someone here would know.
You should pull the head once the belt is off and replace the gasket. If it did hit you will see it in the valves and piston top.
There is 2 types of pistons . Intrusive :Flat topped and Non-Intrusive : Cupped.
If your breaking sockets with an impact gun ..... then it may have a left hand thread to the bolt (depends on the engines rotation) But the book should of notified you of this. Some times a good 3' cheater pipe on a 1/2" ratchet works better then a gun. (just use a 1/2" socket as well.)
The bolts threads may just be rust welded, try whacking the head once or twice real hard.Don't be scared of hurting it. Just don't miss the head of the bolt.
