4 Bookbinding Tools - Must Have for Hand Bookbinding
Hand Bookbinding gives a rewarding feeling to the heart. There are some steps which will be boring and doing those again and again will get on the nerves. This will be the case for most people. But there are some for whom each and every step of bookbinding will give a sense of accomplishment. There are some bookbinding tools which can be used for automating tasks. This will give some ease while bookbinding. In this article I will show you some of the bookbinding tools that make the binding process simple.
1) Signature Punch: Some of you maybe knowing this. It is a device which can make holes in signatures. Since the hole punching bits will be at equal distance all the signatures will have holes at the same points. Making holes with an awl will be a tedious process. You have to mark all the points and make one hole at a time. With signature punch you don't have to worry about marking points and then making one hole at a time. In just one go you can make all the holes.
2) Bone folder: Bone folder is very handy tool. It is used for making accurate folds and creases. You cannot get a simpler tool than this.
3) Bookpress: Having a bookpress is a must for someone who binds books regularly. It is a tool having two wooden blocks joined by large screws and bolts. This thing is used to hold the spine of the book tightly for applying the glue and to attach the cover properly. Paper clamps can be used for thin books but for fat books a bookpress is ideal.
4) Hand drill: A small drilling machine will help to make holes easily in thick sheets of paper. You can get bits of different thickness and you can make holes accordingly.
The above four bookbinding tools are a must have for bookbinder to work quickly and efficiently. You can also work without them but the work will be tedious so you should definitely have them.
