Using Groundwire as a neutral? Is it ok?
Our towns power system has had a neutral leak (it will take them time to find out where the leak is from). There is power coming from both Live and Neutral wires. Since the neutral is a grounded wire I'm thinking of using our houses grounded wire as neutral as well. Will this cause any problems? The only problem is that the phase line (that comes from the power meter) is 32A and the grounding wire that comes into the breaker panel is 6A. Although all the outlets are 6A wired.
By the way, I have a Surge protector that is able to handle 32A plugged into a 6A wire.
I mean 6A wire because the breakers used for the wires are 6A.
I'm planning on grounding it before the trip switch as otherwise grounding the neutral blows the trip switch.
Not a very good idea, unless you want to get shocked whenever you touch the sink or when you get in the shower.
Older service ground wiring is tapped to the water lines and when you use a device the unbalanced voltage goes back on your neutral wire.
Wait until they fix the problem, or get a generator or pound in your own ground rod outside.
