I may need to have an ICD fitted but im a mechanic and an electrician and i also use a welder quite often?
dose anyone know any dangers with this because the leaflet i got doesn't have Very much information all it says that i cant do arc welding dose anyone know why ? and also being a mechanic i was wondering weather parts of the car may affect it like the alternator because it has magnets inside it and my full time job is an electrician and i was wondering weather anything that i do will affect it ?
Im not sure about these machines but I have heard that strong magnets definately need to be avoided. Also when you go through passport control at the airport I think you can walk through the scanner but they cant come near you with the wand. You should be given a card to keep on you that says you have an ICD fitted. You should hold this up when walking through passport control so they are aware and do not jump straight to scanning you with the wand.
You will probably be given more info about what to avoid once youve had it fitted. If you are in the UK they will offer support group meetings for you to attend in the first few months.
My dad has had one for nearly a year now after his unexplained cardiac arrest last june. It has saved his life twice since, they are amazing little gadgets!! He was never told about avoiding microwaves tho...and he uses the microwave nearly everyday and so far it has had no interference with his ICD.
Every time it goes off (in the UK under DVLA) you cannot drive for 6 months..its a pain but its worth it if its going to save your life.
